In this video, I discuss how "wedge" pressure is measured by floating a balloon from a PA catheter into a pulmonary capillary bed to get an estimate of left atrial pressure. A normal PAOP is 8 - 12 mm Hg. If it’s elevated it often associated with fluid overload, but not always. Other conditions such as tamponade & PEEP can increase the value as well!
